Turkey, Cesme and Pamukkale while we wait for visitors.

Updated: Sep 17, 2021

It's been a long time since the last update, almost 3 weeks !!! 😀

We have sailed to Turkey, but along the way from Lesbos we first anchored in a quiet and calm lagoon (we thought) in Nisis Tomaria - a lagoon with crystal clear water. At night we lay out in the cockpit to see the starry sky, but during the night we were visited in the lagoon, by a bunch of fishing boats "talking" together ... to ask each other about the fishing luck, right? - at least not a quiet night, but we get used to it - more about that later.

The next morning we sailed on to Mithilini, the "capital" of Lesbos - here we experienced being chased, 2 times !! - first because we were in a custom place, then after moving to the designated space, we were asked late at night about moving, because it was the yacht club's place!?, but after a discussion with the port police we were to stay until the next morning because we were leaving so early - it was not much sleep that night... we were outside the one disco that was open all night. ..

In the morning on our way out of the harbour we were again stopped, this time by customs ....- now there was about payment (which no one had mentioned to Kai Robert when he was at port police the day before), so then we had to berth and wait until the office opened, which took about an hour before we could finally leave.

We finally made our way towards Chios, a 53 nm stretch, which would take about 8-9 hours on the engine - it was almost no wind.

Kai Robert wanted to use the time fishing and it didn't take long for it to bite - something big ... The rod was bowing and the leash was leaping out. Kai Robert fed and cranked as I drove and backed and tried to "follow" the fish. Kai Robert worked with the fish for 1 hour and 50 min ( !!!), then the fish "won", the line snapped and unfortunately the fish is now swimming around with a hook in the mouth and a long line hanging behind😪

Just packing up and heading for Chios again - we arrived at the harbor in the afternoon.

The next day we crossed the Turkish border and arrived in Cesme. We had agreed that a Volvo Penta dealer should look at a small oil leak we had. It was decided that the engine should be removed to check if the leak was in the big seals. While waiting for this, we got the backlight on the chartplotters fixed, poor backlighting was a common "failure" - it's okay now 👍.

Oops ..., it turned out that the engine could not be taken out in Çeşme due to customs rules, a lot of paperwork, so we sailed instead to Alaçatı, a little further southeast. Now it started to get a little short of time due to holiday in Turkey, it was a national holiday a week from the 10th of August, but we got the engine fixed before that - it turned out that some parts absolutely needed to be replaced.

While the engine was fixed, we rented a car and drove inland to Pamukkale, the "Cotton Mountain", a great trip through wonderfully lush and cultivated fields. The hotel tempted with a thermal bath as well as hamman and massage 😀. The next day we had a great experience in Pamukkale, before heading back to the harbor.

In Alaçatı (the harbor), right behind our boat a man was polishing / grinding the boat during the day and there was party / party at night, so not exactly quiet 🤫. Otherwise, the harbor was a "boring" place - it was great inside the city, but we had to take a taxi to get there, so we chose to sail back to Çeşme on Monday 12. We had a quit windy sailing to Çeşme, 12-15 sm, and were accompanied by some dolphins along the way.

Now we have been in Çeşme for a week, - we have been on a couple of bike rides to look a little outside the city, and as I mentioned earlier about "noise" at night - here is music every night 😀.

We continue on Wednesday the 21st, with a new crew - Nina (Kai Robert's sister) and Dennis is arriving this afternoon 😀.

It will be nice with visitors.
