Boat on land - home for Christmas!

Updated: Sep 17, 2021

The date is October 30th and we hauled the boat out yesterday, but first an update on the last 2 weeks. As we wrote in the last update, we should have replaced the first-stay bracket, but it turned out that we had a newer and better bracket, so we did not have to switch 👍.

Then we sailed (and motor sail) to Korfos, a small place on the Peloponnese coast. It is clear that the season is on the down hill, because us and 2 more boats were the only ones there, and the restaurant owner stood on the dock and beckoned us to the free space !! 😀 - there was no one there, but it was outside his restaurant and so we had dinner there that night.

The day after we proceeded to Palaia Epidavros and anchored up between the fishing boats. There we stayed for 4 days and took a taxi to a fantastic amphitheater, from 500 BC. with room for 12,000 audiences and with a fantastic acoustics. I, Monica, stood down in the middle and spoke in a normal voice and Kai Robert, standing between the middle and top rows, could hear what I was saying. 😼 It is scientifically documented that it has an extremely good acoustic.

Back in the boat we found swimwear, snorkel and mask and went to the neighboring bay, where we snorkeled and saw The Sunken City - an old city ruin located just 50 meters out from the beach.

We moved, of course, sailed 😋, to a nice bay south of Aegina, Klima "beach" and after some testing because another boat had settled in the middle of the bay !! , we got the anchor attached and we spent another night at anchor 👍.

Next port was then Nea Epidavros, a lovely place with a great beach between hills and with a river that came straight out of the "mountain" and ran out into the harbor pool. We walked up to the "town", it was located about 2 km from the harbor and in earlier times it was spared from pirates because it was not visible from the sea. The area was incredibly fertile with extremely full fruit trees - full of oranges, lime, lemon, grapefruit, and we got to taste most of it ... hush, hush 😼😋.

After this we thought the area was explored enough, so we motor sailed (very little wind this last days) back to Palaia Epidavros and 2 more days at anchor, these were 2 lovely days of swimming and relaxation.

On Monday we went by motor to Kanonis Boatyard and on Tuesday morning the boat was hauled ashore.

The season is over and now there is cleaning, "wrapping" and preparation for the winter.

We are going back to Norway next week, - there will be winter with snow and skiing and some work. We will be back next spring , then with new places to visit.

On this trip we have visited 53 bays and harbors and in addition come many places, visited by scooter, car, bicycle and on foot - around much of the Aegean Sea.

Thanks for now, we will be back next spring - hope many will follow us on new adventures 😀😎.

Monica and Kai Robert

Living on a boat during the holidays can offer a peaceful and unique experience, allowing you to connect with nature while still enjoying festive traditions. It’s a reminder of how home can truly be wherever you make it. Boor Verleih Cannobio
